Welcome to Liikistö, Ravaninkylä village in Ulvila – mysterious Island of corpses, yy. 900-1300.
|
The earliest settlement in Ulvila, dating back to yy. 900-1300
(400 years of mystery) was placed on an island in the river Kokemäenjoki, on the coast of
the Gulf of Bothnia. It was a popular and safe fishing place among the inhabitants of the
Kokemäki's area. There was an excellent, sheltered inner harbor, to which the fleets of the
southern Baltic Sea and the island of Gotland arrived. The island was a large shopping centre,
a place for the exchange of products and goods, salt and furs. Liikistö had its own judicial
system, the judgment stones, places of punishment: gallows and a place of execution, as
well as cages for slaves.

Located in Western Finland, the island was of interest for external proprietors. Most likely,
the island has been attacked for its ownership, and therefore the construction of massive
protective equipment has started, but for unknown reasons it was not completed. The territory
of Liikistö is very special in terms of environmental conditions and is, therefore, a
wildlife sanctuary.
Excursion starts from the yard of Ulvila City Hall, Luokkarintie 1.
Excursion-time – 1,5 h, within walking distance of about 2 km,
including forest paths.
