The Birth of Medieval City of Ulvila, its heyday and why it disappeared under the peat
Welcome to the two-hour tour where you will see and

The city of Ulvila was built on the place, where those days situated
a powerful village which has almost dissapeared nowadays (only the Church building survived).
The village was located on the banks of the river Vanhakylänjoki (today it is caled Päkkioja),
on the place, where it joined the river Kokemäenjoki. Originally this area had a Swedish
name Ulfsby, in Finnish – Susikylä (Wolf's Village). Later it was translated into Finnish as
Ulvila. The village grew up, thanks to the safe harbor, along the banks of the river
Vanhankyläjoki. The open sea, Lattomeri (nowadays there is a field) was so close, so that
even large ships from the Baltic Sea could freely moor in the port of river Vanhakylänjoki.
